We are in an era of strict e-mail regulations. Which means that some of our important e-mails may be going directly into our SPAM or JUNK folders, without us even knowing it.
When it comes to Real Estate, e-mail is a main source of communication between Realtors, buyers, sellers, attorneys, you name it. We all run the risk of missing an important e-mail, only to find out later that it’s sitting in our junk/spam folder. With this in mind – you can avoid missing e-mails and continue to keep business communication and service at it’s best.
Always give your SPAM or JUNK folder a good look every so often to see if anything was sent there by mistake. If so, you should always use the buttons to tag messages that were sent as SPAM/JUNK incorrectly as being GOOD.
Don’t miss imporant e-mails.

Quick question…when was the last time you updated your website?
Meaning, the last time you put new information, offers, discounts, services or anything on your site. If you can’t remember the last time you updated your website, chances are you need to get moving!
You should update your website at least every quarter – which is every 4 months or 6 months if that. You can update the look and feel, add more content, talk about new offers, highlight new lisitings, add new facts and figures and more! In order to make this happen, you must establish a solid relationship with your web developer. They should be able and willing to help you make your website all it can be. Think about it…why do you visit sites like www.newsday.com, www.nytimes.com, www.msn.com? Becuase they provide you with up-to-date current info and news. Your website should do the same for your buyers and sellers. Your website visitors want all the information they can get – it’s up to you to give them what they want.
If you need a few ideas to add to your site – try MLSLI’s FREE Web content. We have a library of FREE content for your website – it’s all real estate related and will give your website a boost.

How often do you update your website?

Many Realtors are using Facebook. More and more agents everyday are opening up a Facebook profile to connect with old friends and and in the meantime – solicit new business.
Facebook is realtivley new, so we are all still figuring out ways to use it for business.
So the question remains, should you have a personal and business mixed into one profile? Or, should you have one profile for business and one profile for pleasure.
Share with me and other Realtors. Let me know what you think…

Are you ready to take the next step you’ve been avoiding? Today is the day to join the social revolution…join Facebook! Or, at least give it the old college try. You never know…it may work for you.
Word on the street is that you should be thinking about marketig your listings in the places where your buyers and seller are these days. You need to get a little more creative if you are looking for new business in this day and age. Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends while promoting your business.
For example, one of your ‘friends’ on Facebook may post that they are ready to sell their home. Since you get a ‘live feed’ of what your friends are writing, you can instantly respond back to them and grab the listing! A perfect way to come across as efficient, and not aggressive.
Finding new business on Facebook may be one of the smartest things a real estate practitioner can do in this tough market.

I know it may sound cliché, but we should all have at least one New Year’s Resolution. By the time you’re done reading this post, you may even have two. Here’s why. A New Year’s Resolutions is a great opportunity to do something positive. Like, giving back to your community or helping those in need. We all possess the gift of charity so why not use 2009 as the year to give back to others.
Need help getting started? The Corporation for National and Community Service was created to bring together Americans from all across the country and provide them with a way to give back to their individual communities and nation. It is an independent federal agency that accepts volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and encourages citizenship, service and responsibility among those who serve. It includes programs, such as: Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America and is America’s largest grant maker supporting local, national service and volunteer programs. In addition to the national and international organizations and programs available, local communities have nonprofit organizations that are always in need of volunteers. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce or newspaper; part-time and full-time opportunities exist for finding ways to give back and assist local people in need. The ability to help those in need is a wonderful experience; many personal rewards occur when one decides to make a positive contribution in the lives of others.
A New Year’s Resolution is also a great way to get motivated and grow your business. Ever think about having a resolution for your business in 2009? It’s your big chance to start something new and to stick with it. If you resolve to try something different, you’ll get different results! Start a blog, get a website, join FaceBook or LinkedIn, attend a networking event…the possibilities are endless.
Are you convinced yet, or do you think New Year’s Resolutions are just hype?
If you do have any, please share with us your New Year’s Resolutions, whatever they may be. Hopefully they will be a source of inspiration for us all. And on that note, let us leave you with a thought from one of Long Island’s most beloved poets, “Charity and personal force are the only investments worth anything” – Walt Whitman.

The two presidential candidates, the upcoming election, and the housing market are all key variables that will affect the state of the economy over the next few months.
With, November 2008 right around the corner, many homeowners are thinking about the current real estate market and what solutions each candidate poses. Today, real estate is a key driver in our national, state, and local economy. So, we can assume both presendial candidates will be proposing new ways to support the real estate industry.
Becuase real estate is such an imporant factor in our economy, it will be a major topic of discussion in the campaign. Both Obama and McCain have recognized the existing housing problems in the country. Both have acknowledged a need for some type of reform. They also disagree on how much government should be involved and in which aspects. How the market will unfold after the election remains unknown.
How do you think the 2008 Presidential election will affect the real estate market?
